DeKalb Ag Youth Scholarship offers 10 scholarships worth $2,500 for those following agricultural related degrees. Online application ends every year on February 15.

Monsanto Roadrunner Scholarship is open for those who come from families of farmers and whom intend to become full time students in the field of agriculture. Five scholarships for agriculture worth $1,500 each are available.

AGCO Corporation offers 12 agriculture scholarships worth $2,000 each for students of courses related to crop science, general agriculture and other agricultural centric communication, education, journalism etc.

AGDATA Inc. offers two $2,500 agriculture scholarships for students in the fields of dairy, soil science, ranch management and other related fields, along with general agriculture.

There are numerous other scholarships for agriculture students ranging from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars offered by firms like AGCO Finance,
Agribusiness Division – Wilbur-Ellis Company, Agrium U.S. Inc., Alpha Gamma Rho Educational Foundation, Anderson Foundation etc.

The basic idea behind all these scholarships in agriculture is to reward good students and encourage them to opt for formal education in agriculture. Hence, don’t think that farming or agriculture is all about hard work involving machines and livestock. With so many changes taking place in the environment, it is only natural for farming techniques to also undergo a change.

Furthermore, these agricultural scholarships are not all about farming alone. Horticulture, dairy management and other soil related activities will also be covered. Some scholarships for agriculture require residency in a particular state or set of states for a student to become eligible. FFA Scholarships

If you are a member of Future Farmers of America, you may be eligible for their national FFA scholarships in agriculture. The FFA has about two million dollars in scholarship money available every year. These national FFA scholarship awards are spread out over multiple agriculture scholarships awarded by the FFA annually. The FFA has a variety of ag scholarships available, with different eligibility requirements for each.

Many of the FFA scholarships in agriculture that are available do not come directly from the FAA. Instead, they are awarded by private businesses and major corporations, to members of the FFA. Scholarships are available from Ford, Cargill, The National Association of Farm Broadcasters, AGCO, AGDATA, Wilbur-Ellis, Alpha Gamma Rho, Agrium, American Family Insurance, the American Veterinary Medical Association and many others.

To help students and members of the FFA to find out about FAA scholarships that are available, the FFA makes a agricultural scholarship guide available for download, free of charge, from their website. All students who are members of the FAA and their parents are encouraged to download and view this guide by the student’s junior year of high school, so that they have time to see which agriculture scholarships they are eligible for, and so that they can get their applications filled out and submitted by the deadline.

These ag scholarships may only be granted if you are majoring in a specific agricultural related field. Many of them use a wide range of criteria in awarding the national FFA scholarships, and most will include your involvement with the FFA, and may possibly include leadership skills and community service, as well as your grades and ACT and SAT scores. Again, there are different requirements for each scholarship that is offered in association with the FFA.

Through the FFA website, FFA members can apply for more than one thousand of these agricultural scholarships, with just one application. However, some of the scholarship programs require their own separate application as well. The applications are available in November of each year, and winners are selected and notified by May of the following year. These awards are for the school year that begins either in August or September of the same year. If you win one of these FFA scholarships, you will receive information about how to claim your ag scholarship by May before you start school in the fall.

Along with the agricultural scholarships guide that is available to students and parents from the FFA website, you should also be aware that you must fill out and submit your application online, as hard copy applications are not accepted. Information that you will need for your FFA scholarships application include your FFA chapter number and membership number, your FFA advisor’s contact information, your class rank and GPA, and of course, your ACT or SAT scores.

As you can see, being a member of the FFA has more benefits that you first imagined. The FFA is a wonderful organization for students, but just being a member of the organization also enables you to pay for your college education more easily. Aside from the experience and learning opportunities that the organization provides, this is why many students join the FFA during their freshman year of high school so they may apply and hopefully land a few of these national FFA scholarships in agriculture to help pay for college.

USDA Scholarships

If you are considering apply for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program agriculture scholarships, there are several things that you need to know about what is required and expected of you in order to win these scholarships in agriculture, to attend school, and to find employment after your graduation. These USDA scholarships in agriculture are offered from the United States Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the 1890 Black Land Grant Universities.

First, these USDA scholarships are only available for students who will attend one of the 18 Black Land Grant Universities. These Universities include Florida A&M, Kentucky State University, Prairie View A&M, the University of Arkansas, Alabama A&M, Langston University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Southern University, West Virginia State University, Tennessee State University, Lincoln University, Tuskegee University, Virginia State University, North Carolina A&T University, Fort Valley State University, Alcorn State University, South Carolina State University, and Delaware State University.

Attending one of these colleges isn’t the only thing that is required for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Scholarship Program. The student must also major in agriculture, nutrition or food science, or other fields related to the agriculture and natural resources industries. You must be a citizen of the United States, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and have leadership qualities and have verifiable proof of community service. You must also have a score of at least 1500 on the SAT or a score of 21 on the ACT.

If you are not currently a high school student, but are instead a sophomore or junior in college, you must also submit a resume, two letters of recommendation, and an essay to apply for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program. Applications can be obtained online, but must be mailed in once they are completed, and postmarked on or before the February 1st deadline each year. Winners are notified between March 1st and April 30th, and those who did not win the USDA scholarships are notified by mail during the month of May. The applications are not sent to the USDA, they are sent directly to the school that you will be attending.

If you are awarded one of these agricultural scholarships, you will be required to work for the United States Department of Agriculture for a certain number of years beginning immediately after your graduation. The number of years coincides with the number of years that you received the award while attending school; so at most, you would be required to work for the USDA for a period of four years.

There are approximately 36 USDA scholarships for agriculture awarded under the program each year, and each ag scholarship provides the students with full tuition and associated fees, books, a laptop computer with a printer and software, room and board, and summer employment with the USDA while you are still attending school. Essentially, your entire education is paid for, which is what makes the USDA scholarships in agriculture offered under this program so attractive, and the application process so competitive.

You should also note that you can apply for the USDA scholarship program at more than one 1890 Landmark University by sending a copy of the application to each school that you are interested in attending. However, with the copy of the application, all signatures and transcripts must be original.

The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program should definitely be considered and applied for if you will be attending a qualifying college, if you meet the eligibility requirements and you will be going into an agriculture field, as you not only get the financial aid, but you will also get almost immediate experience in your chosen field upon graduation – guaranteed.

ARMS Agriculture Scholarship from USDA

Have you ever heard of the DHIA and their unusual milk agriculture scholarships? DHIA is short for the National Dairy Herd Information Association. Unless you’re a student interested in a degree in agriculture or dairy science, this may not mean very much to you. But if you are planning to earn a degree in dairy production, marketing, or research, you may be interested to find about the unique milk scholarship opportunities available through this nationwide organization.

Interested in learning more about your chances in taking advantage of this unusual scholarship in dairy to earn agricultural scholarship monies for college?

To qualify for this dairy scholarship in agriculture, a member of your immediate family must either be on DHIA test, or be employed by the organization that uses DHIA testing. Students whose immediate family members are employed by the DHIA, or by an affiliate of the association, are also eligible to apply for these agriculutural scholarships in dairy. If you want to apply for this dairy scholarship for agriculture, be aware that academic achievement and community involvement are important in selecting a scholarship winner. Furthermore, you must be enrolled in or attending a two- or four-year program at an accredited university degree program in the United States.
This scholarship for agricultural students is funded primarily through the annual auction, which is held by the DHIA. Contributions to the milk scholarship fund through individual donations and investments allows the DHIA to continue their tradition of working to support students pursuing careers in fields related to agriculture.
The deadline for the year’s agriculture scholarship awards are that applications must be postmarked no later than September 30. The Association makes the decision concerning the winners in February, and announces the winners each year at the Annual National Meeting. Last year, 25 students received agriculture scholarships worth $500 each, and this year’s winners will soon be announced.
Another scholarship in agricultural majors that is closely related to this one is the National Milk Producers Federation National Dairy Leadership Scholarship. Unlike the DHIA agricultural scholarship, however, the Dairy Leadership Milk Scholarship is awarded to graduate students who are interested in conducting research about the dairy industry.
The Dairy Leader Scholarship is one of the few dairy scholarships in agriculture that are also available to students enrolled in PhD programs. Students from a wide variety of agriculture-related fields, including herd management, nutrition, food safety, and journalism are also eligible to apply for this dairy scholarship.
The 2009 winners for this milk scholarship for agriculture have not yet been announced, but a total of four PhD students received milk scholarships for their research studies in 2008. All of these studies were related directly to the improvement of health in dairy animals or increasing milk production in those animals.

Milk can certainly do your college funds some good, particularly if you are interested in earning a degree in agriculture or dairy management. Remember, though, that your name won’t be one of those listed as winning one of these milk scholarships for agriculture, unless you take the time to apply. Get ready for the deadline now, so you don’t miss out on your chance to win these unusual scholarships!

Not too many years ago, agriculture was primarily seen as a field for men. Times have changed, though, and many companies and colleges are eager to erase these stereotypes and help women to excel in fields related to agriculture.
Unusual agriculture scholarships for women such as the Mahindra 2009 Women in Ag Scholarships are designed to accomplish just this goal. If you’re a woman, and you’re interested in earning a college degree in a field related to agriculture, find out how your gender can help you earn money for college.

Mahindra Tractors has developed an agreement with the Future Farmers of America (FFA) to administer this scholarships award, which is offered annually to four female recipients. Last year, for example, the scholarships foundation received more than 1,500 applications.
Each of the Mahindra WIA agriculture scholarships is $2,500 each. The selected winners are chosen by the FFA based on a number of criteria, including their academic qualifications, leadership skills, and their level of interest in and commitment to obtaining a degree in an agriculture-related field. The agricultural scholarship funds can be used to pay for books, classroom fees, tuition expenses, or equipment required for a class.
If you are one of the persons chosen to receive this scholarship in agriculture, the Mahindra Corporation does reserve the right to require that you appear with certain company executives, representatives, or dealers for company-related award celebrations. Additionally, the company expects to be permitted to use your name for media purposes, or in advertising or company promotions.

Sometimes, even scholarships for agriculture students come with a small price, and the price of this unusual scholarship is the potential for some public attention and interest. If you are strongly opposed to this, you probably should choose not to apply for this Ag scholarship.
If you don’t mind the advertising appearances in exchange for scholarship money, however, you may find an opportunity for personal or professional gain in appearing at one of these celebrations. Who knows, your next employer or manager may be scheduled to attend the event too, looking for someone with the unique skills and qualifications you have!
The Mahindra 2009 Women in Agriculture Scholarships applications can be downloaded and submitted through the FFA scholarship website. The applications for the 2009-2010 school year will close in just a few days though (application deadline is February 17th), so unless you already have all of the materials together, you may have to wait until next year to apply for this unique tuition scholarship. Don’t worry, though; as long as you’re still enrolled in college next year, you can apply for the chance to become a 2010 Mahindra WIA scholarship recipient!

Many women have already blazed the trail utilizing these unusual agriculture scholarships for women, but many more women are still pioneering new directions in agriculture-related degree fields. Majoring in agriculture today is a lot more specialized than you could even imagine. There’s the matter of choosing what kind of agriculture you’re planning to pursue. The agricultural field is so vast, that choosing a particular area of interest, can prove to be challanging. The good news is, whether it’s cotton, dairy, or livestock, there are a number of unique agriculture scholarships for students just like you!

American farmers are serious about their livestock, and the National Jersey Youth Scholarships prove this easily. This scholarships foundation awards over $10,000 in cattle scholarships for agriculture students each year. Whether you’re a college freshman or planning to enroll in graduate school, the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) offers plenty of chances to earn money for college.

If you have previous experience with Jersey cattle, don’t miss out on your chance to win this valuable scholarships money. You do have to be a junior member or lifetime member of the Jersey Cattle Association to apply for these agriculture scholarships, though. If you’re interested in obtaining a veterinarian degree specializing in large animals, or the production, marketing, or manufacturing of dairy products, the Cedarcrest Farms Scholarship was founded just for you. This unique scholarship for agriculture students is open to both undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in these fields from an accredited university in the United States.

If you’ve already completed some of your studies in these fields, or are working toward a degree in animal science, the Russell-Malnati Scholarship for Advanced Students is designed just for you. This scholarship in agriculture is also available to graduate students who are working toward degrees in the same fields.
Another of the scholarships for agriculture students that may interest you is The Reuben R. Cowles Youth Award. Don’t apply for this scholarship, though, unless you are a resident of Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, or South Carolina though. Only students from these states are eligible to receive this scholarship for agriculture.

The deadline for most of these AJCA agriculture scholarships is July 1st of the year in which the Ag scholarship will be used. Applications aren’t available until April 15th, but you can start getting your transcripts together and research the requirements for each of these cattle scholarships in agriculture.
When the applications are available, you can get started and submit yours early so you won’t have to worry about missing the deadline for these unique agricultural scholarships from AJCA. “At The Heart of a Growing America” Agricultural Scholarship Program is the first of the Illinois scholarships in agriculture offered by this organization. This program provides 24 individual scholarships valued at $1000.00 each. Students who qualify for this agricultural scholarship must live or attend high school within the 42-county service territory of 1st Farm Credit Services. Each applicant must submit a brief essay and will be judged on their academic achievement, community involvement and activities within agricultural youth groups.

Community College Agricultural Scholarship Program provides $500.00 awards for scholarships in agricultural. The grant is given to students who attend one of the community colleges within the 42-county service territory of 1st Farm Credit Services. Farm Credit which services southern Illinois, will ward twenty-three $1,000 “We Understand” Agriculture Scholarships to high school seniors this spring. ASEV is an organization that focuses on enology and viticulture (fancy words for the science of wine making and grape growing!). Although these two words are seldom heard in everyday language, the results of this science are everywhere. Think of all the restaurants, bars and wine cellars with walls of fine (and not so fine) wines. Behind each bottle was the science of growing the grape and turning it into wine.

The ASEV was started in 1950 and initially was composed of researchers from the University of California and California winemakers. However, the organization now has over 2400 members, 100 affiliates and three chapters. It has become a world-wide organization by extending its tendrils to as far away as Japan! The organization offers the agricultural scholarship to encourage students to become a part of this growing industry.

In order to be a recipient of the ASEV Agricultural Scholarship, the student must be enrolled in an accredited four year college or university, be a resident of North America and have a minimum of junior status for the upcoming academic year. The program of study must be a science basic to the wine and grape industry or emphasize enology or viticulture. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is necessary for undergraduates and for graduate students a 3.2 GPA is required. Application packets for these scholarships in agriculture must be received by March 1. 

Imagine sitting on your veranda with family and friends and in your hand is a glass of fine wine that you helped to develop.
