The more awarded every year, the better chance students have to win one.

It’s nice to see a major corporation such as CHS doing it right in the student education aid arena.

It makes you wonder why more major companies don’t have scholarships for students on such a grand scale – especially when it’s only a drop in the bucket for them to finance; and pays such huge community PR for them.

When you look around, many major corporations only have one scholarship awarded out every year that may be 10K or less, and they seem to imply like they are the cat’s meow when it comes to awarding a college scholarship.

Some big companies don’t even have a student aid award; yet they want students to buy their products. They haven’t yet figured out that life’s a two way street, and not a one way road in which they’re traveling on.

If more and more student scholarships are given out yearly, then students would not graduate with so much debt, and they would therefore be able to buy more of their product.

This is exactly how it works!

So kudos to CHS and their wonderful agricultural scholarships!

I would highly recommend that more students become familiar with this company and consider electing to study agriculture in college.

CHS is a gorilla in the agriculture industry, and simply by the enormity of this company will tell a student that when they graduate they most definitely will get a good job in a growing field that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Students interested in studying agribusiness will find there are numerous agribusiness scholarships for agriculture students available to assist them with funding their education. The United Agribusiness League & United Agricultural Benefit Trust Scholarship Program is just one such scholarship. Almost $800,000 has been awarded in scholarship funds through this program since 1989. Prior scholarship winners have gone on to work in international sales, market development, management, government and foreign trade. Other students have even pursued graduate studies.

In 2012, more than $55,000 will be available in scholarship funds from UAL. In order to be eligible for these Ag scholarships, students must be currently residing in the United States, Mexico or Canada. In addition, applicants must also be affiliated with UABT or UAL through a member or the employee of a member. While many students who apply for agribusiness scholarships may plan to study that field, the agriculture scholarships are actually open to any major field of study. The deadline to apply is March 31st.

The mission of the United Agribusiness League is to unite businesses involved in agriculture through the provision of benefits, economic solutions and services on a domestic as well as international level. UAL began with just six members in 1980 and since that time has expanded to include more than 1,100 agricultural employees and dozens of agricultural trade associations.

Other agribusiness scholarships include the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program. This program is the result of a partnership between the 1890 Black Land-Grant Universities and the Department of Agriculture (USDA.) Through the program, scholarships are awarded to students who will be attending one of the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grand Universities. Students must be pursuing a degree in natural resources, agriculture, nutrition, food science or a related discipline. In addition, students must be willing to work for the USDA following graduation.

Each agriculture scholarship award provides yearly tuition as well as employee benefits, employment, use of a laptop computer, software and printer. Lab and activity fees, room and board and books are also included in the scholarship. Annual scholarship renewal is based upon satisfactory performance. One year of service to the USDA is required for each year of financial support. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors up through college juniors. College students not attending a 1890 University who receive the scholarship must be willing to transfer.

High school students who live in an area which is serviced by 1st Farm Credit Services may wish to apply for the company’s agricultural scholarship. The scholarship is specifically offered to assist student in pursuing an education in agriculture or a rural life-related field of study. Applications for the scholarship become available in mid-December and are accepted through February 15th. Known as the “At the Heart Of A Growing America” scholarship, this program offers up to 24 scholarships. Each scholarship has a value of $1,000. The scholarships are awarded to students residing in the company’s 42-county services territory.

Agribusiness scholarships are also awarded through the Future Farmers of America with their FFA cholarships. The FFA National Collegiate Scholarship programs are available to all high school students and college students who are members of FFA. Scholarship funds may be used to pay for tuition as well as books, supplies, fees and accommodation expenses. GPA and academic ranking are taken into consideration in the awarding of scholarships, along with other factors such as FFA participation, community service and leadership skills. Approximately $2 million in scholarship funds is awarded each year through the National FFA organization. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is February 15th.

American Agri-women and the Daughters of American Agriculture Scholarships offers multiple scholarships each year to ranch and farm women, as well as their daughters to assist in defraying the cost of tuition of studies related to agriculture. The DAA offers $1,000 scholarships in two categories. The Jean Ibendahl Scholarship is awarded to students ages 18-23, while the Sister Thomas More Bertels Scholarship is awarded to students who are aged 24+. Applicants for these agribusiness scholarships must demonstrate financial need. All applications must be received by no later than June 1st. A person has a better chance of getting the job they want in this field if they have a good education. Checking out the following scholarships offered in agriculture for 2011 can help to ease your mind when it comes to covering the cost of all of it. The National Beef Ambassador Program offers agricultural scholarships of $1,000. Applications are taken from February 1st through April 15th. They award 10 ag scholarships annually. The winners have to agree to give presentations at various engagements as part of the National Beef Ambassador Team.

Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research offer five scholarships for agriculture of $1,000 each annually. They also offer one scholarship of $2,500 per year to a student in the area of astronomy. There are two application periods per year – from January 1st through March 15th and from August 1st through October 15th. The scholarship can be renewed up to four years as long as the students remain in good standing and enrolled full time.

The Marshall E. McCullough Memorial Scholarship is one for high school seniors that plan to enroll in a four year college. Their area of study must by dairy or animal science. Applications are taken from January 1st through April 15th annually. The amount of the ag scholarship is $1,500 per year and can be renewed up to four years per recipient. They award this scholarship in agriculture to one student each year.

One of the great scholarships out there for agriculture is from the National Potato Council Scholarship. They award $5,000 for a graduate student in the area of agribusiness that will be supportive of the potato industry. They award one agriculture scholarship annually to an individual that shows interest in the potato industry, business leadership, and overall contributions to their community and college. The application period is from March 1st through June 15th annually.

The Beef Industry scholarship is sponsored by CME Group and The National Cattlemen’s Foundation. Applications are accepted from August 1st through December 1st. They offer 10 scholarships in agriculuture of $1,500 each. Students must show that they are doing well in school and community. They also have to show a desire to earn a four year college degree in a field that will benefit the beef industry.

The NOPHNRCSE Scholarship is open to Hispanic students that will be pursuing a four year degree in conservation. They offer two scholarships for agriculture, $1,000 each. The applications are taken from February 1st through April 15th.

The Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship accepts applications from January 1st through March 1st. Students that are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the areas of horticulture, forestry, or conservation can apply. Students must be at least a sophomore in college to be eligible and in good standing at their school. The agricultural scholarship awards 5 scholarships each year for $1,500 each.

Don’t let the amount of money a given college program is going to stop be a barrier you can’t overcome especially if you love the agricultural industry because it’s fast growing and more dynamic then many realize. Any of these types of 2011 agricultural scholarships can aid with helping someone to pursue their dreams. The cost of education isn’t cheap, but if you put some effort into looking for scholarships for agriculture you will find that you can develop a plan to pay for it all that is reasonable and manageable.

When it comes right down to it, students interested in a degree which involves agriculture should be able to find a agricultural scholarship program with relative ease due to the sheer number of programs available. They may be easy scholarships to get.

The United States Department of Agriculture is an obvious place to turn to when trying to find agricultural scholarships. Their NRCS 1890 National Scholars Program provides multiple USDA scholarships in agriculture to students planning to attend a college which is considered and recognized as a black land grant university. The program pays for the full tuition of students and provides employment for graduates immediately after graduation for at least the summer. In order to be eligible, students will need to be United States citizens, be coming to college as a freshman for the first time, have at least a 3.0 grade point average and be preparing to attend a historically black land grant university. Applicants are also expected to have scored at least a 1,000 on the math portion of their SAT or a 21 composite score on the ACT. Students will need to be studying an agricultural program and be able demonstrate a commitment to community service. Application materials are expected to be turned in no later than February 1.

The National Future Farmers of America Organization gives out ag scholarships every year to students interested in pursuing a career in a field related to agriculture. All applicants will need to be members of the FFA, have formal farming experience, be involved in community service and have a strong academic record. Reward amounts will vary based on financial need. Applications for the 2011-2012 academic cycle will open on November 15, 2011 and close February 15 2012.

Agricultural scholarships are available through the National Dairy Shrine which provides more than $40,000 in awards every year to selected students. At least eight different agricultural scholarships are available every year varying in amounts from as low as $1,000 to as high as $3,000. Eligibility for awards varies from scholarship to scholarship and students should look over the National Dairy Shrine website for specific details for programs they may be interested in. Applications for these programs open March 1 and close April 15.

Amongst some of the great agriculture scholarships out there is the Central Florida Orchid Society program which gives out $3,000 to a varying number of students every year. This agricultural scholarship focuses on students who have career interests in various fields including horticultural science, plant biology, landscape or nursery horticulture or plant science. Students will be eligible for this program if they are United States citizens, have above average grades, are attending a university full time and live in Polk, Lake, Osceola, Brevard, Seminole or Volusia county. Applications should be submitted no later than February 15.

A company called Annie’s gives out multiple agricultural college scholarships every year for students who impress the selection committee. These potentially easy scholarships for agriculture vary in amounts and students in 2011 received anywhere from $2,500 all the way up to $10,000. The company gives out at least $75,000 worth of scholarship money each year and the amounts awarded will depend largely on financial need. Students must be studying sustainable growing techniques and be attending school in the United States while maintaining a strong academic record. Applications open up in September and a deadline will be announced at that time.

People that want to pursue a career in agriculture should know that there are many agriculture scholarships out there that can help them through college. If there is one occupation in this world that will never go out of fashion or demand, the most certain one is agriculture. As long as people live, they will eat. As long as they eat, there will be a demand for food grains and other agricultural products. Hence, agriculture is a fantastic career option. Of course, it is a highly technical and specialized field and it requires your intelligence, commitment and motivation to succeed.

DeKalb Ag Youth Scholarship offers 10 scholarships worth $2,500 for those following agricultural related degrees. Online application ends every year on February 15.

Monsanto Roadrunner Scholarship is open for those who come from families of farmers and whom intend to become full time students in the field of agriculture. Five scholarships for agriculture worth $1,500 each are available.

AGCO Corporation offers 12 agriculture scholarships worth $2,000 each for students of courses related to crop science, general agriculture and other agricultural centric communication, education, journalism etc.

AGDATA Inc. offers two $2,500 agriculture scholarships for students in the fields of dairy, soil science, ranch management and other related fields, along with general agriculture.

There are numerous other scholarships for agriculture students ranging from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars offered by firms like AGCO Finance,
Agribusiness Division – Wilbur-Ellis Company, Agrium U.S. Inc., Alpha Gamma Rho Educational Foundation, Anderson Foundation etc.

The basic idea behind all these scholarships in agriculture is to reward good students and encourage them to opt for formal education in agriculture. Hence, don’t think that farming or agriculture is all about hard work involving machines and livestock. With so many changes taking place in the environment, it is only natural for farming techniques to also undergo a change.

Furthermore, these agricultural scholarships are not all about farming alone. Horticulture, dairy management and other soil related activities will also be covered. Some scholarships for agriculture require residency in a particular state or set of states for a student to become eligible. Make sure you fulfill the criteria and apply before the due date to get your college education funded without any financial burden if the field of agriculture interest you.

If you are a member of Future Farmers of America, you may be eligible for their national FFA scholarships in agriculture. The FFA has about two million dollars in scholarship money available every year. These national FFA scholarship awards are spread out over multiple agriculture scholarships awarded by the FFA annually. The FFA has a variety of ag scholarships available, with different eligibility requirements for each.

Many of the FFA scholarships in agriculture that are available do not come directly from the FAA. Instead, they are awarded by private businesses and major corporations, to members of the FFA. Scholarships are available from Ford, Cargill, The National Association of Farm Broadcasters, AGCO, AGDATA, Wilbur-Ellis, Alpha Gamma Rho, Agrium, American Family Insurance, the American Veterinary Medical Association and many others.

To help students and members of the FFA to find out about FAA scholarships that are available, the FFA makes a agricultural scholarship guide available for download, free of charge, from their website. All students who are members of the FAA and their parents are encouraged to download and view this guide by the student’s junior year of high school, so that they have time to see which agriculture scholarships they are eligible for, and so that they can get their applications filled out and submitted by the deadline.

These ag scholarships may only be granted if you are majoring in a specific agricultural related field. Many of them use a wide range of criteria in awarding the national FFA scholarships, and most will include your involvement with the FFA, and may possibly include leadership skills and community service, as well as your grades and ACT and SAT scores. Again, there are different requirements for each scholarship that is offered in association with the FFA.

Through the FFA website, FFA members can apply for more than one thousand of these agricultural scholarships, with just one application. However, some of the scholarship programs require their own separate application as well. The applications are available in November of each year, and winners are selected and notified by May of the following year. These awards are for the school year that begins either in August or September of the same year. If you win one of these FFA scholarships, you will receive information about how to claim your ag scholarship by May before you start school in the fall.

Along with the agricultural scholarships guide that is available to students and parents from the FFA website, you should also be aware that you must fill out and submit your application online, as hard copy applications are not accepted. Information that you will need for your FFA scholarships application include your FFA chapter number and membership number, your FFA advisor’s contact information, your class rank and GPA, and of course, your ACT or SAT scores.

As you can see, being a member of the FFA has more benefits that you first imagined. The FFA is a wonderful organization for students, but just being a member of the organization also enables you to pay for your college education more easily. Aside from the experience and learning opportunities that the organization provides, this is why many students join the FFA during their freshman year of high school so they may apply and hopefully land a few of these national FFA scholarships in agriculture to help pay for college.

Have you ever heard of the DHIA and their unusual milk agriculture scholarships? DHIA is short for the National Dairy Herd Information Association. Unless you’re a student interested in a degree in agriculture or dairy science, this may not mean very much to you. But if you are planning to earn a degree in dairy production, marketing, or research, you may be interested to find about the unique milk scholarship opportunities available through this nationwide organization.

Interested in learning more about your chances in taking advantage of this unusual scholarship in dairy to earn agricultural scholarship monies for college?

To qualify for this dairy scholarship in agriculture, a member of your immediate family must either be on DHIA test, or be employed by the organization that uses DHIA testing. Students whose immediate family members are employed by the DHIA, or by an affiliate of the association, are also eligible to apply for these agriculutural scholarships in dairy. If you want to apply for this dairy scholarship for agriculture, be aware that academic achievement and community involvement are important in selecting a scholarship winner. Furthermore, you must be enrolled in or attending a two- or four-year program at an accredited university degree program in the United States.
This scholarship for agricultural students is funded primarily through the annual auction, which is held by the DHIA. Contributions to the milk scholarship fund through individual donations and investments allows the DHIA to continue their tradition of working to support students pursuing careers in fields related to agriculture.
The deadline for the year’s agriculture scholarship awards are that applications must be postmarked no later than September 30. The Association makes the decision concerning the winners in February, and announces the winners each year at the Annual National Meeting. Last year, 25 students received agriculture scholarships worth $500 each, and this year’s winners will soon be announced.
Another scholarship in agricultural majors that is closely related to this one is the National Milk Producers Federation National Dairy Leadership Scholarship. Unlike the DHIA agricultural scholarship, however, the Dairy Leadership Milk Scholarship is awarded to graduate students who are interested in conducting research about the dairy industry.
The Dairy Leader Scholarship is one of the few dairy scholarships in agriculture that are also available to students enrolled in PhD programs. Students from a wide variety of agriculture-related fields, including herd management, nutrition, food safety, and journalism are also eligible to apply for this dairy scholarship.
The 2009 winners for this milk scholarship for agriculture have not yet been announced, but a total of four PhD students received milk scholarships for their research studies in 2008. All of these studies were related directly to the improvement of health in dairy animals or increasing milk production in those animals.

Milk can certainly do your college funds some good, particularly if you are interested in earning a degree in agriculture or dairy management. Remember, though, that your name won’t be one of those listed as winning one of these milk scholarships for agriculture, unless you take the time to apply. Get ready for the deadline now, so you don’t miss out on your chance to win these unusual scholarships!

If you’re planning to go to college and get a degree in agriculture, consider the unusual scholarships in agriculture offered from the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA). Majoring in agriculture today is a lot more specialized than you could even imagine. There’s the matter of choosing what kind of agriculture you’re planning to pursue. The agricultural field is so vast, that choosing a particular area of interest, can prove to be challanging. The good news is, whether it’s cotton, dairy, or livestock, there are a number of unique agriculture scholarships for students just like you!

American farmers are serious about their livestock, and the National Jersey Youth Scholarships prove this easily. This scholarships foundation awards over $10,000 in cattle scholarships for agriculture students each year. Whether you’re a college freshman or planning to enroll in graduate school, the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) offers plenty of chances to earn money for college.

If you have previous experience with Jersey cattle, don’t miss out on your chance to win this valuable scholarships money. You do have to be a junior member or lifetime member of the Jersey Cattle Association to apply for these agriculture scholarships, though. In addition, you have to have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for these unique awards.

Each of the cattle scholarships for agriculture students offered by the association is a little different, and each offers students a unique opportunity to excel. For example, the Jack C. Nisbet agricultural scholarship is offered only to students who have already been nominated for the Cattle Association’s National Jersey Youth Achievement Contest. All other applicants will be rejected.

If you’re interested in obtaining a veterinarian degree specializing in large animals, or the production, marketing, or manufacturing of dairy products, the Cedarcrest Farms Scholarship was founded just for you. This unique scholarship for agriculture students is open to both undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in these fields from an accredited university in the United States.

If you’ve already completed some of your studies in these fields, or are working toward a degree in animal science, the Russell-Malnati Scholarship for Advanced Students is designed just for you. This scholarship in agriculture is also available to graduate students who are working toward degrees in the same fields.
Another of the scholarships for agriculture students that may interest you is The Reuben R. Cowles Youth Award. Don’t apply for this scholarship, though, unless you are a resident of Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, or South Carolina though. Only students from these states are eligible to receive this scholarship for agriculture.

The deadline for most of these AJCA agriculture scholarships is July 1st of the year in which the Ag scholarship will be used. Applications aren’t available until April 15th, but you can start getting your transcripts together and research the requirements for each of these cattle scholarships in agriculture.
When the applications are available, you can get started and submit yours early so you won’t have to worry about missing the deadline for these unique agricultural scholarships from AJCA. You certainly wouldn’t want one of these valuable unusual and unknown agricultural scholarships to go unclaimed!

“At The Heart of a Growing America” Agricultural Scholarship Program is the first of the Illinois scholarships in agriculture offered by this organization. This program provides 24 individual scholarships valued at $1000.00 each. Students who qualify for this agricultural scholarship must live or attend high school within the 42-county service territory of 1st Farm Credit Services. Each applicant must submit a brief essay and will be judged on their academic achievement, community involvement and activities within agricultural youth groups.

Community College Agricultural Scholarship Program provides $500.00 awards for scholarships in agricultural. The grant is given to students who attend one of the community colleges within the 42-county service territory of 1st Farm Credit Services. The recipients are chosen by the individual community colleges with no input from 1st Farm Credit Services. The John Leatherbury Scholarship Program offers an Illinois college scholarship in agriculture in the amount of $3000.00 per year of study. This award is given to a student at the Illinois State University with a major in agriculture. Students who focus on agricultural finance, communication or marketing have an advantage in receiving this agricultural scholarship. Academic performance in high school or college, as well as ACT scores, are considered when awarding this Illinois college scholarship in agriculture.

Farm Credit which services southern Illinois, will ward twenty-three $1,000 “We Understand” Agriculture Scholarships to high school seniors this spring. To participate for this ag scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors who plan to enroll in a college or university during the fall 2009 semester and pursuing an agriculture-related academic major or career. Applicants must reside in one of the sixty southern counties in Illinois which Farm Credit serves. This Illinois agriculture scholarship application deadline is March 15, 2009.

A career in agriculture does not necessarily imply a life of tractors and overalls. What if the student seeking agricultural scholarships sat back and dreamed of sniffing the aroma of a newly harvested grape and swirling wine in a crystal glass? Stomp out the notion that all careers in farming lead to corn and soybeans fields of the Midwest. An Agricultural Scholarship (or wine scholarship as some people refer to it) through ASEV can lead to a career in growing grapes and producing wine in warm climates such as the Northern California wine region.

ASEV is an organization that focuses on enology and viticulture (fancy words for the science of wine making and grape growing!). Although these two words are seldom heard in everyday language, the results of this science are everywhere. Think of all the restaurants, bars and wine cellars with walls of fine (and not so fine) wines. Behind each bottle was the science of growing the grape and turning it into wine.

The ASEV was started in 1950 and initially was composed of researchers from the University of California and California winemakers. However, the organization now has over 2400 members, 100 affiliates and three chapters. It has become a world-wide organization by extending its tendrils to as far away as Japan! The organization offers the agricultural scholarship to encourage students to become a part of this growing industry.

A wine scholarship in agriculture does not mean you will have pick grapes or sit in a laboratory all day. Some of the positions currently available in this fantastic field are: Viticulture Farm Advisor (for those who like the feel of the earth under their feet), Full Time Lecturer (for those who like to teach), and Director of the Oregon Wine Research Institute (if you’re more of a leader than a follower).

If you’re an outdoors type person, you will be happy to see that most of the current job openings are in California, Oregon and Washington. The diverse weather options of these west coast states make them desirable places to live. You can swim in the ocean and snow ski on a mountain in the same day! Not only does agriculture scholarships through ASEV lead to a field of extensive opportunities, it also leads to a life in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

In order to be a recipient of the ASEV Agricultural Scholarship, the student must be enrolled in an accredited four year college or university, be a resident of North America and have a minimum of junior status for the upcoming academic year. The program of study must be a science basic to the wine and grape industry or emphasize enology or viticulture. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is necessary for undergraduates and for graduate students a 3.2 GPA is required. Application packets for these scholarships in agriculture must be received by March 1. 

Imagine sitting on your veranda with family and friends and in your hand is a glass of fine wine that you helped to develop. Even though it’s January, the weather is warm and the sun is an orange fireball setting over the Pacific Ocean. Can scholarships for agriculture, or a wine scholarship from ASEV, really get you here?
