CHS Agricultural Scholarships Program

CHS Agricultural Scholarships

CHS Agricultural Scholarships

The CHS agricultural scholarships are worth looking into simply because they award 100 $1,000 scholarships every year!

Wow!

That’s very good indeed!

The more awarded every year, the better chance students have to win one.

It’s nice to see a major corporation such as CHS doing it right in the student education aid arena.

It makes you wonder why more major companies don’t have scholarships for students on such a grand scale – especially when it’s only a drop in the bucket for them to finance; and pays such huge community PR for them.

When you look around, many major corporations only have one scholarship awarded out every year that may be 10K or less, and they seem to imply like they are the cat’s meow when it comes to awarding a college scholarship.

Some big companies don’t even have a student aid award; yet they want students to buy their products. They haven’t yet figured out that life’s a two way street, and not a one way road in which they’re traveling on.

If more and more student scholarships are given out yearly, then students would not graduate with so much debt, and they would therefore be able to buy more of their product.

This is exactly how it works!

So kudos to CHS and their wonderful agricultural scholarships!

I would highly recommend that more students become familiar with this company and consider electing to study agriculture in college.

CHS is a gorilla in the agriculture industry, and simply by the enormity of this company will tell a student that when they graduate they most definitely will get a good job in a growing field that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Again; if your not studying agriculture in college; reconsider changing your major!!!

It’s all about supply and demand with jobs and salary too!

Below is the CHS agricultural scholarships program described by CHS:

CHS High School Agricultural Scholarship Program

“More than 75 years ago, the CHS predecessor organizations made a commitment to build a strong future for their producer-owners and communities they reached.

Today we continue to carry out that commitment by supporting education and leadership programs that invest in the future of agriculture, cooperative business and rural America. And these programs continue to receive the majority of funding and focus from CHS via scholarships and grants.

Building vibrant communities across America is a long-term commitment, and we’re proud to help grow leaders through our funding of university, cooperative education and rural youth leadership programs.

CHS is committed to investing in future leaders in cooperative business and agriculture at the collegiate level through scholarships, grants and resources. This program area is designed to encourage academic, professional and leadership development among today’s college students pursuing careers in the agricultural industry.

Agribusiness Scholarships

Students interested in studying agribusiness will find there are numerous agribusiness scholarships for agriculture students available to assist them with funding their education. The United Agribusiness League & United Agricultural Benefit Trust Scholarship Program is just one such scholarship. Almost $800,000 has been awarded in scholarship funds through this program since 1989. Prior scholarship winners have gone on to work in international sales, market development, management, government and foreign trade. Other students have even pursued graduate studies.

In 2012, more than $55,000 will be available in scholarship funds from UAL. In order to be eligible for these Ag scholarships, students must be currently residing in the United States, Mexico or Canada. In addition, applicants must also be affiliated with UABT or UAL through a member or the employee of a member. While many students who apply for agribusiness scholarships may plan to study that field, the agriculture scholarships are actually open to any major field of study. The deadline to apply is March 31st.

The mission of the United Agribusiness League is to unite businesses involved in agriculture through the provision of benefits, economic solutions and services on a domestic as well as international level. UAL began with just six members in 1980 and since that time has expanded to include more than 1,100 agricultural employees and dozens of agricultural trade associations.

Other agribusiness scholarships include the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program. This program is the result of a partnership between the 1890 Black Land-Grant Universities and the Department of Agriculture (USDA.) Through the program, scholarships are awarded to students who will be attending one of the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grand Universities. Students must be pursuing a degree in natural resources, agriculture, nutrition, food science or a related discipline. In addition, students must be willing to work for the USDA following graduation.

Each agriculture scholarship award provides yearly tuition as well as employee benefits, employment, use of a laptop computer, software and printer. Lab and activity fees, room and board and books are also included in the scholarship. Annual scholarship renewal is based upon satisfactory performance. One year of service to the USDA is required for each year of financial support. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors up through college juniors. College students not attending a 1890 University who receive the scholarship must be willing to transfer.

High school students who live in an area which is serviced by 1st Farm Credit Services may wish to apply for the company’s agricultural scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to students residing in the company’s 42-county services territory.

Agribusiness scholarships are also awarded through the Future Farmers of America with their FFA cholarships. The FFA National Collegiate Scholarship programs are available to all high school students and college students who are members of FFA. Scholarship funds may be used to pay for tuition as well as books, supplies, fees and accommodation expenses. GPA and academic ranking are taken into consideration in the awarding of scholarships, along with other factors such as FFA participation, community service and leadership skills. Approximately $2 million in scholarship funds is awarded each year through the National FFA organization. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is February 15th.

American Agri-women and the Daughters of American Agriculture Scholarships offers multiple scholarships each year to ranch and farm women, as well as their daughters to assist in defraying the cost of tuition of studies related to agriculture. American Royal initially began in a humble tent in the Kansas City Stockyards as a national Hereford Show. Since that time, the show has expanded into what is now known as the annual American Royal Livestock show. The show attracts future business and agriculture leaders, including high school and college students, as well as owners/breeders and animal enthusiasts from a 33-state region.

Each year, American Royal makes connections with more than 20,000 students through events and educational programs sponsored through the American Royal Museum. More than $1,700,000 was granted in 2010 by American Royal as a way of reaching its goals. This was accomplished through educational awards, competitive prize monies and agriculture scholarships.

American Royal is considered to be one of the premier events during the fall in Kansas City and hosts the largest barbecue contest in the world as well as the oldest and largest livestock exhibition and professional rodeo in the Midwest. The event is also comprised of a prestigious horse show as well as the national Championship Saddlebred horse competition.

The American Royal remains a beloved Kansas City tradition today, drawing the support of the Metropolitan Business Community as well as sponsors that are nationally recognized and more than 900 members, representing a diverse cross-section of the Kansas City Metropolitan Community.

Along with the Royal American Scholarships, Royal American also offers internship opportunities. Prospective interns should be available beginning June through November. There are two internship periods available; summer and fall. Current college students as well as college graduates are encouraged to apply for the internship program. Applicants with backgrounds in marketing, agriculture and communication and who also possess strong computer skills are encouraged to apply to the internship program.

Students selected as Royal American interns will act as an integral part of the overall American Royal Team and will be granted the opportunity to further promote American Royal’s mission, while also developing and enhancing skills in problem solving, critical thinking and creativity. FFA Scholarships in Agriculture

FFA Scholarships

FFA Scholarships

If you are a member of Future Farmers of America, you may be eligible for their national FFA scholarships in agriculture. The FFA has about two million dollars in scholarship money available every year. These national FFA scholarship awards are spread out over multiple agriculture scholarships awarded by the FFA annually. The FFA has a variety of ag scholarships available, with different eligibility requirements for each.

Many of the FFA scholarships in agriculture that are available do not come directly from the FAA. Instead, they are awarded by private businesses and major corporations, to members of the FFA. Scholarships are available from Ford, Cargill, The National Association of Farm Broadcasters, AGCO, AGDATA, Wilbur-Ellis, Alpha Gamma Rho, Agrium, American Family Insurance, the American Veterinary Medical Association and many others.

To help students and members of the FFA to find out about FAA scholarships that are available, the FFA makes a agricultural scholarship guide available for download, free of charge, from their website. All students who are members of the FAA and their parents are encouraged to download and view this guide by the student’s junior year of high school, so that they have time to see which agriculture scholarships they are eligible for, and so that they can get their applications filled out and submitted by the deadline.

These ag scholarships may only be granted if you are majoring in a specific agricultural related field. Many of them use a wide range of criteria in awarding the national FFA scholarships, and most will include your involvement with the FFA, and may possibly include leadership skills and community service, as well as your grades and ACT and SAT scores. Again, there are different requirements for each scholarship that is offered in association with the FFA.

Through the FFA website, FFA members can apply for more than one thousand of these agricultural scholarships, with just one application. However, some of the scholarship programs require their own separate application as well. The applications are available in November of each year, and winners are selected and notified by May of the following year. These awards are for the school year that begins either in August or September of the same year. If you win one of these FFA scholarships, you will receive information about how to claim your ag scholarship by May before you start school in the fall.

Along with the agricultural scholarships guide that is available to students and parents from the FFA website, you should also be aware that you must fill out and submit your application online, as hard copy applications are not accepted. Information that you will need for your FFA scholarships application include your FFA chapter number and membership number, your FFA advisor’s contact information, your class rank and GPA, and of course, your ACT or SAT scores.

As you can see, being a member of the FFA has more benefits that you first imagined. The FFA is a wonderful organization for students, but just being a member of the organization also enables you to pay for your college education more easily. Aside from the experience and learning opportunities that the organization provides, this is why many students join the FFA during their freshman year of high school so they may apply and hopefully land a few of these national FFA scholarships in agriculture to help pay for college.

ARMS Agriculture Scholarship from USDA

ARMS Agriculture Scholarship from USDA

USDA ARMS Scholarship

USDA ARMS Scholarship

While the USDA has many different agriculture scholarship programs, the newest program, the Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) Scholarship Program offers two Ag scholarships that are a bit different in nature. The available Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) Scholarship Program is funded by the Economic Research Service and the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the USDA. There are two agricultural scholarships, and each Ag scholarship is worth $5200. These are not scholarships that are offered to high school students that are about to enter college. Instead, these scholarships in agriculture are awarded to researchers at learning institutions in the field of agriculture, and there are stringent requirements for receiving and using the USDA scholarships.

First and foremost, when the scholarships are awarded, the funds are to be used for access to the NORC Data Enclave. This is a protected and confidential research database with very sensitive data. Winners of the NORC scholarships will be able to access the information from their own offices, for the purpose of research. This includes computer access to private and protected forums, blogs, wikis, and instant messaging with other researchers for the purpose of collaborating on research.

Those who win the awards must be attending or working for a University that is accredited in the United States, but may also be working for a related non-profit organization. The funds may not be used for expenses that do not relate to the program or project that the award was based on. Upon being admitted to the Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) Ag Scholarship Program, you must enter into an agreement of understanding with the USDA, and take part in a training program which lasts for one day, and is offered remotely. You must also provide regular reports of your progress concerning your research and share information with the community that is
established by the program. You must also agree to keep all of the information that you have access to confidential, and for each research project that you will be using the ARMS system for, you must provide a description of the program or project, as well as the objective of that program or project. You must also outline how you will use the data that you access through the program once your research is complete.

USDA scholarship winners are chosen based on complex criteria, including the research proposal and how it relates to the current research in the enclave community. If your University has never had access to this community, you stand a greater chance of winning the award.

Although the program is new, the deadline will occur in August of each year. American Soybean Association Agricultural Scholarship Unknown

American Soybean Association Agricultural Scholarship is an Unknown Scholarship

If you are a nature-loving individual who pines for the great outdoors, consider an agricultural scholarship offered by the American Soybean Association. This unknown scholarship flies below many scholarships radar because on the surface it does not appear that a career in agriculture is all that glamorous. Nevertheless; a lucrative and rewarding career in the field of agriculture could be yours. Your friends will be impressed when you tell them you are a ‘bean counter’.

If the thought of sitting in a cubicle all day, week after week, fills you with dread, an agriculture scholarship will allow you to work in an office where the sky is your ceiling and the grass is your carpet.

The world population is growing and all of a sudden farming is “in” again. A scholarship in agriculture can pave the way to a rewarding career. Whereas past representations of farming were old guys in overalls bailing hay and driving rickety tractors, the image is now of big business, big equipment and big profits.

This agricultural scholarship is called the Secure Optimal Yield Scholarship (SOY). It is named in honor of Kip Cullers, a southwest Missouri soybean farmer who gained instant notoriety in 2006. Mr. Cullers set a new world record for soybean yield at 139 bushels an acre! For those of you who aren’t familiar with farming and soybeans, that is an incredible yield.

The applicant for this scholarship in agriculture does not have to become a soybean scientist or commit to becoming a soybean expert. The student must only declare agriculture as their major at any accredited college or university. The American Soybean Association awards the $5000.00 agricultural scholarship to a student who has shown leadership and who has participated in extracurricular activities.

Don’t let the idea of an ag scholarship from the ASA start growing just yet. This scholarship in agriculture comes with many specific stipulations and requirements that must be met before it is awarded to the student.

Only a child or grandchild of a current American Soybean Association or state soybean association member is able to receive this agricultural scholarship. If you do not meet this guideline, consider other scholarships for agriculture that may be available. Only one award per household is available during the life of the Secure Optimal Yield agricultural scholarship.

The student must also be a current high school senior with a 3.0 GPA (grade point average). ACT/SAT standardized test scores will be used to judge the student’s worthiness to receive this ag scholarship. That’s not all! Not one but two letters of recommendation must accompany the application and don’t forget to also submit a short essay of 500 words or less.

Besides the science of planting and harvesting the food, agriculture now refers to engineering food for fuels. More and more research is being done to find alternative fuel sources. Scientists are turning to farmers to help in researching and discovering alternative ways to use corn and soybeans. A career in agriculture has many possibilities nowadays. Could a scholarship in agriculture lead you to the discovery of a new fuel source? Could it lead to a new invention for harvesting or a new seed for growing? Maybe one day an agricultural scholarship will be named in your honor! Consider the American Soybean Association and the Secure Optimal Yield Ag unknown Scholarship. Agriculture Scholarships by ASEV are Wine Scholarships

agriculture scholarships by ASEV

A career in agriculture does not necessarily imply a life of tractors and overalls. What if the student seeking agricultural scholarships sat back and dreamed of sniffing the aroma of a newly harvested grape and swirling wine in a crystal glass? Stomp out the notion that all careers in farming lead to corn and soybeans fields of the Midwest. An Agricultural Scholarship (or wine scholarship as some people refer to it) through ASEV can lead to a career in growing grapes and producing wine in warm climates such as the Northern California wine region.

ASEV is an organization that focuses on enology and viticulture (fancy words for the science of wine making and grape growing!). Although these two words are seldom heard in everyday language, the results of this science are everywhere. Think of all the restaurants, bars and wine cellars with walls of fine (and not so fine) wines. Behind each bottle was the science of growing the grape and turning it into wine.

The ASEV was started in 1950 and initially was composed of researchers from the University of California and California winemakers. However, the organization now has over 2400 members, 100 affiliates and three chapters. It has become a world-wide organization by extending its tendrils to as far away as Japan! The organization offers the agricultural scholarship to encourage students to become a part of this growing industry.

A wine scholarship in agriculture does not mean you will have pick grapes or sit in a laboratory all day. Some of the positions currently available in this fantastic field are: Viticulture Farm Advisor (for those who like the feel of the earth under their feet), Full Time Lecturer (for those who like to teach), and Director of the Oregon Wine Research Institute (if you’re more of a leader than a follower).

If you’re an outdoors type person, you will be happy to see that most of the current job openings are in California, Oregon and Washington. The diverse weather options of these west coast states make them desirable places to live. You can swim in the ocean and snow ski on a mountain in the same day! Not only does agriculture scholarships through ASEV lead to a field of extensive opportunities, it also leads to a life in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

In order to be a recipient of the ASEV Agricultural Scholarship, the student must be enrolled in an accredited four year college or university, be a resident of North America and have a minimum of junior status for the upcoming academic year. The program of study must be a science basic to the wine and grape industry or emphasize enology or viticulture. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is necessary for undergraduates and for graduate students a 3.2 GPA is required. Application packets for these scholarships in agriculture must be received by March 1. wine scholarship or viticulture scholarship by ASEV

wine scholarships for agricultureImagine sitting on your veranda with family and friends and in your hand is a glass of fine wine that you helped to develop. Even though it’s January, the weather is warm and the sun is an orange fireball setting over the Pacific Ocean. Can scholarships for agriculture, or a wine scholarship from ASEV, really get you here? This would be our highest compliment if this happens for most of our readers!
